Fixed price vs base price: what builders don't always tell you

The advertised price and the contract price can be tens of thousands apart. Here's what to ask before you sign.

When you see a design advertised "from $289,900", that number can mean very different things depending on the builder. The key questions: Are site costs fixed or provisional? Is the facade in the picture the one in the price? Are floor coverings, driveway and landscaping included, or "turnkey extras"?
